“You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win and
expect to win” - Zig Ziglar (american author & motivational speaker)
2017 isn’t even over, yet you’re constantly asking yourself where did this year go? With Halloween & Christmas just around the corner before you know it the 18th year of the new millennium will be upon us.
Forget back to school, September is the un-spoken ‘back to normal business’ month when your team are all back together again with a faded golden holiday glow, and there’s no more excuses to leave the office early on a Friday for a beer in the sunshine!
September brings a sense of new-found momentum for absolutely everything needing to be done yesterday, with your boss already sending out meeting requests for a ‘2018 strategy brainstorm’ before you’ve even decided on a location for this year’s office Christmas party!
However, as Zig Ziglar stated, to be a winner you must first plan and prepare. And here at STEELBIZZ that’s exactly what we advise our clients to do. It’s the perfect time to be thinking about how awards can be integrated to form part of next year’s business strategy, with deadlines for 2018 awards starting from as early as October.
Perhaps you entered and won awards in 2017- in which case congratulations! You’ll know how brilliant winning awards feels, the fun of celebrating success with colleagues and the value that the right award can bring in building your brand and boosting your reputation. And for those who were pipped to the post, do not get disheartened as there can be many reasons why you didn’t win – maybe you are entering the wrong awards or categories, or entries are lacking the right evidence or hook to make them stand out as a worthy winner.
This doesn’t mean you should give up and miss out in 2018; to win awards start thinking about it strategically and planning it as part of your wider business plans. The more aligned your awards and recognition programme is with your overall business strategy, the more benefits and success there will be for your business in the long run.
So - a couple of questions to get things underway and think about over your next ‘brew’ break or even better take it as a pro-active team discussion point to that 2018 strategy brainstorm session (and maybe even earn extra brownie points with the boss! ;) )
If the answer is yes to any of the above then you or your company could have a story that’s worthy of winning an award in 2018- but key to success is in making sure it’s the right award and that you plan, prepare and allow enough time to ensure your entry has a winning formula!
